Their procession, suggesting a funeral march, contrasts with the dozens of families also in the courtyard, busy enjoying the summer holiday in brightly colored pants and tropical-print buttons-ups. They drift across a museum courtyard like a single large rain cloud through clear skies. The first thing you see as you arrive in Yokohama for the show is a couple hundred young people wearing variations of black and white.

It’s a shame publisher Square Enix currently doesn’t have plans to take this show on the road, because the performance and the audience capture what makes Nier one of the most compelling series in modern video games. Unfortunately, you’ll have to live vicariously through me, because the show was part of a limited run (two performances, one day) meant to promote the new album’s release. I just saw the orchestration live at the Yokohama National Hall, and the soundtrack holds up spectacularly in a large venue. But if you are the sort of person who doesn’t usually seek out game soundtracks, the new album is a more accommodating starting point. In no way is the original soundtrack bad - in fact hardcore Nier fans may still prefer its everything-and-the-kitchen-sink approach. It’s an album hobbled by its primary purpose of serving the game, carrying a good deal of its emotional load. In hindsight, the original Automata soundtrack now feels like a rough draft. It focuses on the best and most accessible tracks, giving them space to breathe, while also tempering some of the original composition’s more overdramatic builds. The updated soundtrack, which includes music from both Automata and its predecessor Nier Gestalt and Replicant, is a richer, more complex and concise album. A new orchestration of the score - now available on CD, vinyl and iTunes - is even better. All in all, it is never easy to produce an album where all songs are an ‘All-Kill’ to the ears, but Ou Entertainment has done a pretty damn good job on it.Nier: Automata had the best video game soundtrack of 2017. It is a pity that Jin Young did not sing for the OST, even though he produces the song, Misty Road. These four ladies have great vocals, and they were also given great melodies to work with. My personal favourites are songs by Gummy, Ben, Beige and Baek Ji Young. The result of his OST release made it extra special for him and his fans again as they celebrated All Kill on all 8 major music charts. It is uncertain whether this OST will make history down the track in the years in the music/drama industry, but one thing is for sure-it made an unforgettable mark in Park Bo Gum and his fans-as this soundtrack marks the official debut for Bo Gum on October 11. My fondness for the background music also includes the music that appears when Seja accepted his Regent role, and the humming version of ‘Because I Miss You’-glad to know the humming version is included in the final OST. The second CD consists of 16 instrumental background music from the drama.Ĭan’t wait! I was excited when Ou Entertainment decided to release the Special BGM OST performed by Second Moon early, and I did enjoy listening to it, but my ears definitely wanted more. First CD will consist of 12 tracks sung by various artists, with the humming version of ‘Because I Mis You’ as the 13th track. The soundtrack is to come in a 2-CDs format. The final Original Soundtrack is set to release on October 28, but will be available for order on October 17, 2016. Thank you Ou Entertainment for producing the background music and songs for Moonlight Drawn by Clouds.
